Saturday Recipe Round-up

It’s Saturday again, and what a week this has been! I’m stressed out to the max with my job search (who isn’t these days?) and the work that I’m currently doing at my office. It’s commencement season, which means lots and lots of invitations, certificates, programs and more.

Oh. And the clients want everything by next week.

Yay.

So, to calm down, I dug up some delicious recipes to share with you. Let’s see what I uncovered, eh?

Confessions of a Cookbook Queen has stolen my heart, once again, with her recipe for Devil’s Food Mini Donuts. Not only does it require NO frying (I really do hate heating up a pan of oil. Ew), but it also comes with a sweet chocolate frosting!

As usual, Alaska Mom made a beautiful new treat this week, Chewy Coconut Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Bars. He recipe titles are even longer than mine! And you knew I was going to feature this bar recipe once I saw the word, “coconut,” in the title.

One of these days, the weather will warm up again, and I will make these classic ice cream sandwiches from Smitten Kitchen, one of the most classy blogging ladies I know. Who doesn’t want homemade ice cream sandwich cookies? I mean, aren’t those the most delicious cookies ever?

Ah, Bakerella. Her amazing decorating techniques never fail to amaze, and her creativity was spent this week on easy little panda cupcakes. The use of chocolate chips and sprinkles are such simple ideas that I wonder why I didn’t think of it before?

And this week’s piece de resistance is something I found trending on Pinterest: Cinco de Mayo pinata cookies from SheKnows. I was absolutely stunned at the sight of these beautiful and original treats. I can’t wait to find the time to make them!

This week’s food blog faves

The spring weather is slowly trickling into South Jersey and with it some interesting recipes from my fellow food bloggers. I’ve been looking for a “welcome spring” recipe myself, and I think I might find it here!

I absolutely love copycat recipes, and this strawberry NutriGrain recipe from At Home in Alaska is the perfect treat. The ingredient list makes me smile, too – I’m addicted to cake mix!

Flourless chocolate cake is back and even better than even before. Bakerella actually got the chance to meet one of my favorite chefs ever, Paula Deen, and the cake recipe is one of Paula’s own.

Not much is simpler than a traditional magic bar, named so for the “magic” that happens when the ingredients come together. Baking Bites made this simple dessert successfully (of course!).

Since it’s warmer in other parts of the country than here, ice cream is suddenly a big hit! Dessert First made cocoa nib ice cream with the addition of tonka beans. I don’t even know what those are.

I just had to mention these caramel apple turnovers from My Baking Adventures. Not only do they look really simple, but also extremely delicious. And I have apples!

This chocolate-orange punch bowl cake from Something New is Cooking is too simple to pass up. Many of the ingredients are pre-made, which makes assembly of this dessert quick, easy, and fulfilling!

A banana split in one container

Blue Bunny Ice Cream

When Grammy and I feel like it, we can be ice cream snobs. During my first summer at her house, we spent the entire time eating Blue Bunny Champs cones. That summer was the first time I’d ever eaten Blue Bunny ice cream. It was an eye-opening experience, changing the way I viewed the world of half gallon cartons forever.

My grocery store doesn’t carry the Blue Bunny brand in containers (Grammy suggests that I talk to customer service to show them that there’s a market for such items, but I don’t know. I feel weird), so when I went home and saw Blue Bunny Banana Split ice cream in the fridge, I knew that I was about to taste something amazing.

Banana splitThis ice cream truly is a full desert in a container. If you’ve been dreaming of banana splits but don’t have the time to make it with all the trimmings, then this is an ice cream for you.

Banana and fudge swirl through vanilla ice cream, a delicious combination that leaves you wondering just how they got banana to swirl. Add diced pineapple, which you don’t really taste, maraschino cherries (some actually remain whole!), and mixed nuts, and you have a full dessert ready to go.
