Saturday Recipe Round-up, Week 7

My dear Bakers Anonymous family, this has been a week of PURE craziness, and I can’t even explain to you why. With grad school (and the BIG move to grad school only a few months away, I’m more stressed than ever. I’m not ready for such a big relocation (a few hours away from my family is a big deal to me!) and all of the projects I want to do just end up piling in the corner, calling out to me, “Niki! Niki, please work on us!”

This is not a positive note when it comes from my clients’ work. :-/

Anyway, next Monday is Memorial Day and I gathered up some delicious red, white and blue recipes for you to enjoy either on Monday or later, for the Fourth of July. Let’s work our way up to the complicated ones, eh?

Red, white and blue strawberries from The Sisters Cafe make for the perfect summer addition to any outdoor lunch or dinner. It’s just the right amount of sweet and healthy to balance out all the hot dogs and hamburgers.

Frankly, this next one from Love Stitched made me drool. M&M’s, pretzels and Oreos? This is the best cookie bark recipe I’ve ever seen!

Firework cookies made from french vanilla cake mix would have a great base that lends itself to any combination of mix-ins. The Cookin’ Cowgirl made these for a friend’s graduation, so feel free to use whatever colors you want.

If a cheesecake pie is more your style, try this centerpiece recipe, the star-spangled pie from Snackpicks.com. Made with just five easy ingredients and a pre-made crust, this pie can even be made the day OF your celebration.

And if you’ve got more than just a little time on your hands, make these tri-colored peppermint patties from Haniela’s Food & Photography. I made my own peppermint patties a few years ago and while they were one of the hardest things I ever “baked,” they were also one of the most delicious.

So there you have it! Enjoy your beautiful weekend folks. Here’s hoping there’s great weather wherever you are.

Saturday Recipe Round-up, Week 5

Good afternoon, Bakers Anonymous family! It’s Saturday, but more importantly, it’s my Grammy’s birthday. Happy birthday Grammy! You’re awesome.

In honor of her, and tomorrow’s holiday (Mother’s Day, in case you forgot), here are five of my favorite posts featuring delicious treats to make for the mother (or mother-figure, Lord knows I’ve got lots of those, too) in your life.

Usually I don’t post recipes from big company websites like Pillsbury or Hershey’s, but this Chocolate-covered Oreo cake couldn’t be passed up. Many thanks to Lindsay from the berteau life for sharing this with the whole world. I really want to make this cake as soon as possible. I’m so serious about this.

Bakerella, ever the inspiration, created this Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana pudding, made extra special through the use of jars, ribbon and a nifty paper cutter. Now, if only I could find some cute little jars just like she used.

Bakers Royale threw down with the very spring appropriate Strawberry Shortcake Bars. Not only are the bright pink (natural coloring people, no worries), but they are also coated in the perfect streusel topping! I think I want to take that topping and eating it on its own. For realsies.

Need more strawberry? Because I know I do. And let’s add in some chocolate chips, okay? All that goodness equals Strawberry Chocolate Chip Cake from Eat at Home Cooks. From the perfect strawberry icing to the sweet chocolate chips, this cake is sure to be a winner.

And for the final recipe share, more strawberry! (I’m sensing that summer is coming soon) Confessions of a Cookbook Queen made these luxurious Strawberry Cheesecake Cupcakes with homemade strawberry filling on top. Pretty and light? Yes, please.

Saturday Recipe Round-up

Good evening, Bakers Anonymous readers! Today I’m bringing back one of my favorite posts, the recipe round-up. This is the part of the show where I gather together five of my favorite recipes from the blogs I read this week. Let’s get started, shall we?

These Caramel Butter Pecan Bars from Confessions of a Cookbook Queen are simple, chocolatey, AND have caramel in them. It really sounds like a no-brainer to me. Plus, bars make for a nice change from the typical cookie.

I’ve been on a coconut kick lately, in case you haven’t noticed, so when I saw this coconut cake from a Little Bit Funky, I almost went out and made it myself. I love it when recipes can be made days in advance, because I don’t always want to eat my treats the same day (crazy, right?).

Speaking of coconut, here’s another cake from Taste of Home – the coconut-layered pound cake that I like to call the Almond Joy Cake. (I’m only slightly obsessed with coconut.

Now that it’s getting warmer, at least it is here in New Jersey, I’m looking for things that keep me away from the oven. Sure, air conditioning is wonderful, but do we have to use all of its wonderful cooling powers at once? Check out this banoffe pie from Brooklyn Limestone. No “real” cooking required.

And, finally, these Toblerone Cheesecake Bars from Once Upon a Cutting Board would be so problematic to have in my house. Who’s to stop me from eating them all by myself?

Early summer favorites

I’m back in the food blogging world, and it seems like everyone has been keeping busy in my absence. There are a ton of new recipes to check out, with me eagerly looking at each one as a possibility.

This strawberry cheesecake tart from A Recipe a Day is super simple and an excellent way to make use of one of the most perfect summer fruits: strawberries!

One of my most favorite food bloggers, At Home in Alaska, came up with the perfectly divine combination of cream cheese, strawberries, and chocolate in her latest pound cake recipe. There’s nothing like the dynamic duo of chocolate and strawberries on top of cake!

A simplistic cheesecake recipe is jazzed up with simple jelly and a white chocolate squiggle in Bakerella’s latest post. It gives me comfort to know that even the professionals get cracks in their cheesecakes.

After many months of watching and waiting, the infamous Chockylit has finally posted again on her blog Cupcake Bakeshop. Readers are awarded with a grape cupcake recipe, as unusualness seems to be her speciality.

These tiny jasmine cakes from Dessert First look exceptionally beautiful and delicate. Using flower essences is something that I’m not fond of, but I can’t resist this as a birthday cake option!

I <3 cuppycakes lastest recipe is based off of a fast food place I’ll never be able to go to because Jack-in-the-Boxes don’t exist in New Jersey. Hey, I was happy enough to finally get a Sonic. Her burger cupcakes are a sweet take on the old classic cheeseburger cookies.

A hot weather note and some favorites

The weather has been fluctuating so much this week that my poor dry-skinned arms don’t know how to react. Besides that, I haven’t even wanted to think about my oven, let alone touch it. In lieu of me presenting you with new recipes, let’s check out what my fellow food bloggers have done this week!

At Home in Alaska did another copycat recipe this week, Mrs. Fields Cinnamon Sugar Cookies. I don’t think I’ve seen such perfectly round cookies with that delicious brown color in a loooooong time.

I love doughnuts. I really do. The local Dunkin Donuts, unfortunately, is all the way down on Delsea, too far for me to walk. Bakerella‘s doughnuts, on the other hand, look all pretty with their hand-dipped frosting. I wish could fry things in my apartment without stinking everything up.

Simple ingredients make up the delicious Coconut Almond Granola featured on Baking Bites. A tasty treat that takes one hour to make!

I don’t think I’ve seen such a beautiful cheesecake that wasn’t in stores, but Barbara Bakes takes the cake with her vanilla bean cheesecake. You can almost smell the deliciousness through the computer screen.

Kix cereal makes a cookie comeback in these treats by Cookie Madness. Unfortunately, the only cereal I have on my shelf at the moment is cornflakes, and I’m not really in the mood to make cornflake cookies. Again.

Ranch rugelach may sound a little strange, but trust me, when you check out the recipe on the Smitten Kitchen website, you’ll be excited to make them yourself!

~Enjoy!
